When you work with a real estate agent, you want to work with someone that’s an expert in the neighborhood. Working with an agent who is well-versed in the area you’re targeting can be an incredible resource in finding the right home, especially if you’re moving somewhere new and don’t know much about the neighborhood yourself.
But how, exactly, can you tell if an agent is well-versed in the area where you’re planning to move?
A recent article from realtor.com outlined signs a real estate agent really knows the neighborhood, including:
- They call out specifics about the neighborhood. If an agent really knows the area, they should be able to offer specific, personalized recommendations, like their favorite restaurants or the best nearby hiking trail.
- They give you insights on commuting. If you’ll be commuting to work, it’s important to understand what that commute will look like before you buy. An agent that’s an expert in the area will be able to give you details about the commuting situation. For example, when rush hour hits, they should be able to give you insights into what a realistic commute time will be based on your work hours, and information about public transport.
- They have connections in the community. If a real estate agent has roots in a community, they’ll have connections in that community—connections that can make your home buying process easier. For example, they might recommend a local lender, give you a list of nearby movers, or put you in touch with a landscaper or contractor to tackle house projects after you move in.
