Many people like to periodically “spruce up” or redesign their home as a way to breathe new life into their space. But because they’re not used as much as other rooms in the home, dining rooms are often overlooked during that redesign process.

But the truth is, a few small changes can make a big impact in your dining room, making it a great room to focus on if you want to update the style of your space.

So what, exactly, are those changes?

A recent article from realtor.com shared Instagram-inspired tips for sprucing up your dining room, including:

  • Create a dining nook. If your dining room is tight on space, consider creating a dining nook. Create seating in the corner with built-in bench seating or a corner banquette, then pair with a pedestal table and a few chairs. This will create a cozy, inviting dining area, but free up the rest of the room, making it feel more spacious.
  • Try an executive table. Executive tables are often associated with office spaces (hence the name!), but they can also look chic in a more modern dining room. To make the space feel on-trend, opt for a dark wood table paired with cane back chairs, which are the perfect blend of modern and classic.
  • Get creative. Who says you need to go traditional with your dining room seating? Instead of the standard dining room chair set, opt for a more interesting (and comfortable!) setup. Try adding a couch on one side, a bench on the other, and chairs at either end of a rectangular table.
