Winter is in full swing and, as the temperature falls, most homeowners see their heating bills start to rise.
But there are ways to save on energy costs, even in the dead of winter. You just need the right approach.
So what, exactly, does that approach look like? A recent article from realtor.com outlined key tips to help you save on your energy bills this winter, including:
- Program your thermostat. According to the article, for every degree you raise your thermostat setting, your energy bills increase by 3 percent. So, if you want to keep energy bills low, determine the lowest temperature you’re comfortable with, and then program your thermostat to ensure your home stays at that temperature all winter long.
- Install radiator reflectors. Do you use radiators to heat your home? If so, installing heat-resistant radiator reflectors between radiators and walls can help reduce heat loss—and help lower energy bills in the process.
- Seal openings. Heating your home is going to be a lot more expensive if you can’t keep the warm air in. On the exterior of your home, make sure to caulk and weather strip around any cracks or openings, and on the inside, make sure to do the same to window and door frames. This will prevent heat from escaping your home, and keep your energy costs more manageable.
